Riverprize 2001 Winner : The Blackwood Basin Group

"Our Blackwood Strategy aims to provide a framework and expertise to assist with improving ecological, social and economic values through facilitating long term natural resource management in the Blackwood Basin. Our core mission is to inspire the sustainable community management of the Blackwood Basins resources for the benefit of current and future generations through co-ordination and education". The Blackwood Basin Group is a non-profit, community-based organisation that coordinates environmental management within the Blackwood River Catchment. Formed in 1990 from community-led concern about the declining health of the Blackwood River, the BBG has since worked with 54 catchment groups, assisted over 500 farming families and delivered more than $16million of Landcare activities throughout this iconic river basin. We have a rich history of achievements for innovation in community-led action, and faced many challenges along the way to remain a Landcare leader.
