Since 1961, Save The Bay’s leadership team has taken inspiration from our three courageous founders, Sylvia McLaughlin, Kay Kerr and Esther Gulick. Their bravery and determination has served as our guide in expanding the scope of Save The Bay’s programming, from preventing Bay fill to restoring wetlands, reducing pollution, and educating future generations of Bay stewards.

Friends of the Napa River (FONR) was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in early 1994. We have worked together with our members and partners through the years on many different Napa River related issues such as flood protection, boating, fishing, watershed restoration, river access and trails, river research, festivals, watershed education, and riverfront development.

"Bay Area watersheds need a helping hand—yours. We all live in a watershed. At home, at work or at your child’s school, chances are that water is trickling and gushing underfoot, flowing into the San Francisco Bay. Our watersheds connect us to each other and to the entire Bay Area. Everything we do—from mountaintop to marsh—affects our water and wildlife, our air and soil quality, our families and communities."

SSV is leading Silicon Valley to a more sustainable future through collaboration with local government agencies, businesses, and community organizations to identify and address these highest-priority environmental issues. We do this by engaging prominent Valley organizations to proactively work toward self-imposed goals of reducing regional CO2 emissions and water use – and helping them translate those goals into measurable results.

Here are some of the things that respected institutions, scientists, and Stanford University staff are saying about the negative impacts of dams on our watersheds and communities, the benefits of dam removal, and the potential for removal of Searsville Dam.
