The Alsek River flows through Lowell Lake. Lowell Glacier carved out the basin that became the lake as the glacier receeded. Mount Kennedy is visible in the white massif further up the Lowell Glacier. Large ice bergs calve from the glaceir and provide a memorable experience for rafters. The raft expedition in Kluane National Park to Turnback Canyon in Tatshenshini/Alsek Provincial Park in BC is 8 days. The full Alsek trip through to the Gulf of Alaska and Glacier Bay National Park is 13 days. The Alsek is the closest landscape in North America to the Himalaya. The Alsek and Tatshenshenshini are known as North America's wildest rivers.
