Drought threatens Iran lagoons, wetlands

The drought in south East Asia has taken its toll on Iranian wetlands and lagoons. Apart from environmental reasons, the human factor is to a large extent to blame for the depletion of water resources in Iran. Experts say inefficient irrigation techniques, reckless consumption by households and the construction, in some cases unnecessary, of hundreds of hydroelectric dams over the past decades are to blame for bringing about the current situation.
