The Mountain GeoPortal is a web-based virtual platform for geo-information and knowledge resources of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. The GeoPortal aims to facilitate the sharing, integration, and use of geographic information across a broad user-base, consisting of science applications, regional database and standardized metadata, training and educational resources, interactive map services and social networking.
The GeoPortal is an important step in establishing a Himalayan Spatial Data Infrastructure (H-SDI) with the aim to promote collaborative effort to build, share, and distribute geo-information resources. Mountain geoportals network of users and providers of information by forging partnerships with key national institutions in ICIMOD regional member countries and strategic alliances with relevant regional and global partners. The geoportal also features SERVIR-Himalaya supported by USAID and NASA and other thematic geo-enabled websites developed by ICIMOD. In partnership with ESRI, geoportal has been published in popular ArcGIS online facility.
