With this priority funded research programme, the BMBF aims to strengthen the concept of IWRM in model regions in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The potential contribution that adapted water and environmental technologies and knowledge transfers can make towards the implementation of IWRM concepts in model regions plays a decisive role. All projects are based on an integrated approach, in which the interests of all stakeholders are taken into account under the consideration of natural geographical, ecological and socioeconomic conditions. Key problems are tackled and appropriate solutions developed for each region. In additional funding programmes, the BMBF supports projects associated with IWRM in partner states that are not necessarily developing or emerging nations, or where the emphasis of research is on the development and adaptation of water technolo gies or sustainable land use. The GLOWA research programme is of particular interest here.
