In the Verde Valley, we treasure the Verde River and what it provides to our communities, businesses, and ecosystem. But as populations grow, so does the demand for water. If nothing is done, there is the potential for water levels and river flows to continue to decline. But we as a community have the potential to shift this outcome, preserving a flowing river and protecting water supplies, while promoting sustainable economic development.

The Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council is an Indigenous grassroots non-profit organization, consisting of 73 First Nations and Tribes, dedicated to the protection and preservation of the Yukon River Watershed. The GRCA forecasts floods and issues flood warnings to municipal flood co-ordinators. The co-ordinators then implement their own local flood response plan and assist local residents. GRCA officials work closely with municipal flood co-ordinators, police, emergency management officials and others to operate, test and improve the flood warning system.

The Yukon River Drainage Fisheries Association is a non-profit association of subsistence and commercial fishers with a mission of protecting and promoting all healthy fisheries and cultures along the Yukon River drainage. The Yukon River is home to the longest salmon migration in the world. These salmon provide key dietary and cultural support for over forty-two rural Alaskan villages.

The YFWMB is an advisory body comprised of 12 members appointed by the Minister of Environment from six nominations by the Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) and six nominations by the Government of Yukon (YG).
