North Asia
North Asian river basins encompass some of the largest and most diverse river systems flowing through extensive and varied landscapes. These basins include major rivers such as the Mekong, the Amur, the Lena, the Ob, and the Yenisei, among others. They drain vast areas spanning high-altitude to lowland plains and extensive delta systems.
Origins often in the high-altitude Tibetan Plateau or Siberian shield regions characterized by deep gorges, glaciated highlands, and extensive snowmelt contributions.
Varied drainage patterns influenced by complex geology, including tectonic activity creating narrow valleys and broad floodplains.
Large sediment transport, some of the highest in the world, especially in rivers flowing through erosion-prone loess and plateau areas.
