Nature Foundation SA purchased Witchelina Station in February 2010. Witchelina Nature Reserve is now managed for nature conservation as a part of Australia’s National Reserve System and creates the second largest private nature reserve in South Australia. The reserve covers an area of 421,900 hectares (or 4,219 km2) and contains three distinct bioregions, the Flinders Lofty Block, Gawler and Stony Plains. Witchelina protects vulnerable species including the Thick-billed Grass Wren, the Plains Mouse and the Black Breasted Buzzard.
