Upper Tigris (3)

The Mesopotamian Water Forum is an alternative civil society forum for water, an open space to give voice to those who are marginalized and excluded from the discussion about water management in the Mesopotamian region. It will be held from 5-7 April 2019 in Sulaymaniyah, Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and will involve civil society actors from the entire region of Mesopotamia within the states of Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria.

“Sulaimani, Iraq (14 June 2015)—A new, non-partisan, non-governmental organization has been launch here under the name Waterkeepers Iraq. Waterkeepers Iraq will initially focus in the upper watersheds of the Tigris River and its tributaries in Kurdistan, Iraq. Our hope is to expand there first by add additional waterkeepers who work to protect waterways in their local communities. Eventually, the Waterkeeper model can spread to other parts of Iraq and to all the riparian nations of the Tigris-Euphrates Basins.”
