Dialogue Partners

The Alliance partners are in dialogue with a number of regional and international agencies. These ‘Dialogue Partners’ are less engaged in the day-to-day work, but play an important role in supporting the work, monitoring the impact of Alliance’s work and informing strategy.

Many of the Dialogue Partners were critical in establishing the Alliance as the initiative is intended to complement and benefit regional initiatives in the Mekong region. Indeed the Dialogue Partners were central in determining the scope and role of the Alliance shaping its focus, engagement model and how it adds value to regional initiatives. 		141
2   Link   Mekong Water Dialogues
The Mekong Water Dialogue, convened by IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature)and supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, was initiated to work with countries of the Mekong Region - Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand and Viet Nam - to improve water governance by facilitating transparent and inclusive decision-making to improve livelihood security, human and ecosystem health.
About the Mekong Water Dialogues
As part of Regional Water and Wetlands programme for Asia, the Mekong Water Dialogues aims to:
-to improve decision-making processes around water-related management and conservation in the Mekong Region;
-to provide an opportunity for government, private sector and civil society in the region to participate in dialogues; and
-to enable different perspectives about water-related development to be considered. 		96
3   Link   International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, ICIMOD, is a regional knowledge development and learning centre serving the eight regional member countries of the Hindu Kush-Himalayas – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan – and based in Kathmandu, Nepal. Globalisation and climate change have an increasing influence on the stability of fragile mountain ecosystems and the livelihoods of mountain people. ICIMOD aims to assist mountain people to understand these changes, adapt to them, and make the most of new opportunities, while addressing upstream-downstream issues. We support regional transboundary programmes through partnership with regional partner institutions, facilitate the exchange of experience, and serve as a regional knowledge hub. We strengthen networking among regional and global centres of excellence. Overall, we are working to develop an economically and environmentally sound mountain ecosystem to improve the living standards of mountain populations and to sustain vital ecosystem services for the billions of people living downstream now, and for the future. 		52
4   Link   The Seventh Inter-American Dialogue on Water Management
Water is essential for all forms of life. We need to watch for maintaining adequate availability of water of good quality for all current and future world population, and at the same time to preserve ecosystem functions, adapting human activity within the limits established by nature. In other words - Each generation should have the inter-generational compromise as far as the water that future generations will drink, use, and enjoy.

The Seventh Inter-American Dialogue on Water Management will be the most prominent water encounter in the region for 2011, gathering a wide myriad of sectors, government officials, nacional and international cooperation agency representatives, stakeholders, and practitioners in water management in the Americas. Organized by the Government of Colombia and the Inter-American Water Resources Network (IWRN), in cooperation with numerous national and international agencies, civil society organizations, academic and research institutions, and the private sector, the D7 will address the need to evolve towards an inter-generation dialogue to embrace water management challenges beyond sectoral barriers that we have built in recent generations. For this reason, the D7 seeks to establish an inter-generational compromise to take care of water. 		58
