Golbal Water Partnership (GWP)
The Global Water Partnership's vision is for a water secure world. Its mission is to support the sustainable development and management of water resources at all levels.
GWP was founded in 1996 by the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) to foster integrated water resource management (IWRM), and to ensure the coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources by maximising economic and social welfare without compromising the sustainability of vital environmental systems. IHP-HELP Centre for Water Law, Policy and Science
Water law, policy and science are central to the global water challenge.
The need is acute; more than 1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water and a scary 2.4 billion are without adequate sanitation.
Our work is practical and results-focused; to maximise our impact, we are focused on both building local capacity for water leadership globally and demonstrating the accessibility and utility of our research to decision makers.

Water Footprint Network
Direct and indirect water use
People use lots of water for drinking, cooking and washing, but even more for producing things such as food, paper, cotton clothes, etc. The water footprint is an indicator of water use that looks at both direct and indirect water use of a consumer or producer. The water footprint of an individual, community or business is defined as the total volume of freshwater that is used to produce the goods and services consumed by the individual or community or produced by the business.
