Secure the integration of the protection of ecological values along the Sava into the management of the Sava River The Sava River is the second largest tributary to the Danube River and is of biological significance due to its outstanding biological and landscape diversity. It hosts the largest complex of alluvial floodplain wetlands in the Danube basin and the largest lowland forests. The Sava is a unique example of a river where the floodplains are still intact, supporting both flood alleviation and biodiversity. The total length of the Sava from its source to the Danube is 950 km. The Sava River springs in Slovenia and runs through Croatia for 510 km constituting the border with Slovenia for 2 km, and with Bosnia and Herzegovina for 311 km and discharges into the Danube in Serbia. The most important landscape characteristics are found in the central Sava basin with a mosaic of natural floodplains and cultural landscapes formed by traditional land-use patterns typical to the river valleys of Central Europe in the past. The Sava River is considered by nature conservationists and scientists to be one of the “crown jewels” of European nature and has been selected as a focal region in the Pan European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy (PEBLDS) of the Council of Europe.

The World Database on Protected Areas The World Database on Protected Areas is a foundation dataset for conservation decision making. It contains crucial information from national governments, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, international biodiversity convention secretariats and many others. It is used for ecological gap analysis, environmental impact analysis and is increasingly used for private sector decision-making.

Siberian Crane Wetlands Project There are two phases to the SCWP. Sites under the most immediate threat or that are critical for the lifecycle and survival of the endangered Siberian Crane and a range of globally significant species, were addressed during Phase One (2003-2006). Sites under a less urgent level of threat, as well as the Phase 1 sites needing prolonged support to achieve conservation objectives, are being addressed during Phase 2 (2006-2009). Activities are occurring at regional, national and site levels.

International Crane Foundation The International Crane Foundation (ICF) works worldwide to conserve cranes and the wetland and grassland ecosystems on which they depend. ICF is dedicated to providing experience, knowledge, and inspiration to involve people in resolving threats to these ecosystems.
ICF differs from most nature centers and conservation facilities in that its activities single out a very specific subject - cranes- rather than treating the natural history and general ecology of a region. But the focus on cranes is not limiting; instead it provides ICF an opportunity to address a series of issues not tied to a particular place: endangered species management, wetland ecology, habitat restoration, and the critical need for international cooperation.

protectedplanet.net UNEP has joined forces with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to create protectedplanet.net — an interactive, social media-based website that provides in-depth information on both the leading lights and hidden gems of the conservation world. Using the latest satellite images, users can pinpoint individual protected areas — such as national parks or marine reserves – and zoom in for information on endangered species, native plant life or types of terrain.

The Global Restoration Network (GRN) The Global Restoration Network (GRN), a project of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), offers the field of ecological restoration a new database and web-based portal to trustworthy and hard-to-find information on all aspects of restoration, from historic ecosystems and causes of degradation to in-depth case studies and proven restoration methods and techniques. The overriding mission of the GRN is to link research, projects, and practitioners in order to foster an innovative exchange of experience, vision, and expertise.

The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) promotes ecological restoration as a means of sustaining the diversity of life on Earth and reestablishing an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.
Since its incorporation in 1988, the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) has given voice to the field of ecological restoration and has become known as the leader in this emerging discipline. With members in over 70 countries, SER is a dynamic global network that fosters the exchange of knowledge and expertise among ecological restoration practitioners and scientists from diverse disciplines.
SER promotes ecological restoration and best practices by establishing regional chapters, hosting biannual conferences, and advising international organizations with policy and legislation. SER also maintains active, online networks of restorationists, including the Global Restoration Network (GRN) and Indigenous Peoples’ Restoration Network (IPRN). The Society’s collection of publications includes Restoration Ecology, a peer-reviewed journal, The Science and Practice of Ecological Restoration, a book series published in collaboration with Island Press, as well as Ecological Restoration and Ecological Management & Restoration, two affiliated journals.

The Conservation Land Thrust This website represents work carried out at CLT. Its objective is to enable easy access to information about CLT's efforts and to the diverse projects we develop in Chile and Argentina.
CLT is dedicated to the creation and/or expansion of national or provincial parks to ensure the perpetuity of their ecological and evolutionary processes with the strongest long-term protection guarantee possible.
CLT also supports programs for the protection of wildlife, reintroduction of locally extinct species, land restoration and programs for local development, normally involved in ecotourism, sustainable farming and environmental education.
