The Upper Souris Watershed Association is an independent, non-profit organization that has been developed to implement the key action items from the Watershed Protection Plan. The USWA was incorporated as a non-profit on February 24, 2010. The watershed protection plan has been developed under the leadership of Saskatchewan Watershed Authority by holding meetings with local watershed advisory committees.

In 1997, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and the Department of Interior formed a unique partnership with the goal of developing a shared approach for managing the Platte River. Water users from the three states and local and national conservation groups joined the effort. Together, these stakeholders developed an innovative approach for improving the management of the Platte — for the health of the ecosystem and the people that depend on it.

We are a leader in removing invasive species in the watershed to conserve water and provide habitat for the native species in the area. Our biologists monitor a variety of species including the endangered Least Bell’s Vireo.

The San Joaquin River Restoration Program (SJRRP) is a comprehensive long-term effort to restore flows to the San Joaquin River from Friant Dam to the confluence of Merced River and restore a self-sustaining Chinook salmon fishery in the river while reducing or avoiding adverse water supply impacts from restoration flows.

The Blackwood Basin Group is a non-profit, community-based organisation that coordinates environmental management within the Blackwood River Catchment. The catchment is divided into nine Landcare Zones and the NRM (Natural Resource Management) activities, undertaken in these Zones are coordinated by Natural Resource Management Officers (NRMOs) in direct collaboration with community groups and landholders.

Huron River Watershed Council

The Huron River is considered to be the cleanest urban river in Michigan. Much of the credit for this status goes to the Huron River Watershed Council and the persons who saw the need for the river’s protection. Even though the Council has no enforcement powers, it has accomplished its goals through the use of technical data, factual information and citizen stewardship to influence decisions made by various local agencies, businesses, and individuals.
