Gibsons has been the setting of various movies, perhaps most notably the CBC television series The Beachcombers. In 2009, the town was declared the Most Liveable Community in the World at the international LivCom awards. But a major source of pride for the town is the confined aquifer that lies under it and its oh-so-pure water that’s not chemically treated.

Inland Rivers Network

Inland Rivers Network is a coalition of environment groups and individuals concerned about the degradation of the rivers, wetlands and groundwaters of the Murray-Darling Basin. Since 1991 the Network has advocated for the conservation of biological diversity in these environments, the maintenance of essential ecosystem functions and the restoration of degraded habitats.

Water Level Data

The Las Vegas Valley Groundwater Management Program Hydrologic Telemetry System (HTS) was put in place to help educate well owners about water levels in the valley and allow well owners to see fluctuations in water levels near their wells in "real-time." To view the details of a well, select one from the map.

David and Goliath: Texas v. New Mexico. Can a Court Create Water?

Water in the Rio Grande Basin is currently over appropriated (and has been since the 1890s). All of the waters of the Rio Grande and Conejos River and their tributaries are subject to the terms of the Rio Grande Compact. The Valley’s groundwater resources have been over drafted and the areas face depleted groundwater levels throughout much of the basin.

The Great Artesian Basin Coordinating Committee (GABCC) was established early in 2004 to replace the Great Artesian Basin Consultative Council, which had ceased operation in December 2002. The primary role of GABCC is to provide advice from community organisations and agencies to Ministers on efficient, effective and sustainable whole-of-resource management and to coordinate activity between stakeholders.

Prediction tools that simulate complex groundwater – surface water interactions are needed to assist in the sustainable allocation of water yet are handled poorly in existing river planning models. Because of this, eWater CRC have been working in partnership with the CSIRO and National Water Commission, to develop a Groundwater – Surface water modelling component for Source.
