The LBDAs area of jurisdiction covers the entire catchment’s areas of the major rivers, which drain into Lake Victoria in Kenya. This area measures 39,000 km2.and covers the whole of Nyanza and Western Provinces and parts of Rift Valley Province. It consists of 27 districts in total.
The population of the area is approximately 12 million people and is expected to increase to approximately 15 million by the year 2010. The LBDA Vision is to be the leading Regional Development Authority in Africa fostering sustainable economic development of the Lake Basin Region for the prosperity and economic empowerment of the communities. The LBDA Mission is
to catalyze the economic development of the Lake Basin Region through promotion and implementation of resource-based investments and effective river basin-based integrated community development initiatives.
